Did gas kill my wife? Part 1

Our family

“My wife’s story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of advocating for yourself and your loved ones when it comes to your health. From the time my wife was 18 years old, she struggled with high blood pressure and was prescribed medication to control it. However, despite regular check-ups and tests, her doctors failed to detect the cancer that had been slowly growing inside her for years.

It all started with stomach pains. My wife had been complaining of stomach pains for over a year, but her doctor, who she had been seeing for over 5 years, brushed it off as gas and told her there was nothing to worry about. Despite her increasing frequency of visits, the diagnosis remained the same. Finally, in early 2021, her doctor ordered some blood work and tests, but again, everything came back clear. My wife and I thought we had nothing to worry about, but little did we know, the cancer was already in an advanced stage.

It wasn’t until May 2021, when my wife’s stomach pain became unbearable, that we decided to take her to the hospital. The doctors did the same blood work and tests, but this time, an x-ray revealed something that made the doctor suspicious. He ordered a CT scan the following day, and the results were devastating. My wife had colon cancer that had metastasized to her stomach and liver. A biopsy confirmed that it was an aggressive form of cancer, and it had been present for 7 to 10 years.

As we struggled to come to terms with the diagnosis, I couldn’t help but think about the missed opportunities for early detection. Had my wife’s doctor taken her complaints seriously and ordered further testing earlier, her prognosis may have been vastly different.

I urge you to take control of your health and the health of those you love. Don’t be afraid to question your doctor, get second opinions, and always trust your instincts. Don’t make the same mistake we did and wait for something to be too late. Early detection is key to survival and you never know, it could be the difference between life and death for you or a loved one.”
